California - Children with type 1 diabetes

Alyssa, type 1 diabetes, dx'd age 2  Alyssa, Corona, California, USA.  Diagnosed just weeks before her third birthday, Alyssa has been very brave about all the changes in her life.  So has her mother, Cindi.  Only weeks after her beautiful child was diagnosed, Cindi became pro-active and signed up for her first JDRF Walk for the Cure. Way to go to Alyssa and Cindi!

Elizabeth, Upland, CA, type 1 diabetes   Elizabeth,Upland, California, USA. Diagnosed at age four, Elizabeth was put on the pump only a few weeks after diagnosis due to an allergy to long-acting insulin. She went into DKA during her second week of school due to a lack of adequate care.  Elizabeth, the youngest child of Islets of Hope's founder, serves as an inspiration to many.

Illinois - Children with type 1 diabetes

Erin, age 9, type 1  Erin, Grantsurg, Illinois, USA.  This amazing little girl began doing all her own sugar checks and giving herself injections only one week after being diagnosed at the age of 7.  Erin, now 9, is doing great!

Kentucky - Children with type 1 diabetes

Alyssa, diagnosed at age 5 with type 1 diabetes  Alyssa, Paducah, Kentucky, USA.  Alyssa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the tender age of five.  She is a strong and courageous young lady you immediately began testing her own sugars and barely a month after diagnosis started doing her own injections.  Read a poem about diabetes written by DeAnn, Alyssa's mom!

Emily, Paducah, Kentucky, USA.  This mother and daughter team have really made the most of living with diabetes.  Mom is a teacher who has organized fundraising events for the JDRF and daughter, Emily, well, her pluck and optimism just has to warm your heart.

Hunter, age 2  Hunter, Berea, Kentucky, USA. Hunter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2. With a winning smile and loving parents on his side he bravely faces diabetes.

Morgan, Paducah, Kentucky, USA.  Morgan is brave a 9-year-old girl learning to deal with diabetes.

New Jersey - Children with type 1 diabetes

Eric, type 1 diabetes, dx'd age 2  Eric, Glassboro, New Jersey, USA.  Eric is an amazing little boy diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the tender age of two. His mother, Kimberly, took on both the legal and day care systems when Eric's day care center asked him to leave.  Their family's story serves as both guide and inspiration for those struggling with schools and day care centers who refuse to care for our children.

Virginia - Children with type 1 diabetes

Saylor, Arlington, Virginia, USA.   Saylor was diagnosed 09/12/2006 at the age of 2.

Madison, type 1 diabetes, dx'd 1 day after her 1st birthday  Madison, Centreville, Virginia, USA.  This beautiful little girl was diagnosed only one day after her first birthday.  Madison's grandmother has rallied to support her daughter and granddaughter in their brave fight against the special challenges that come to children diagnosed so young. This story celebrates not only Madison, but her grandmother, Antoinette, as well.  To date, Madison is the youngest child to receive a quilt through the QD Quilts for Children program.

Taylor, Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA.  Diagnosed in October of 2006, Taylor is 10 years old.
